World Explorer

How to play this game

As its name suggests, this activity allows children to become adventurers and explore our world.

They can watch short movies specific to different countries and regions. The subjects vary, such as animals, customs, dances, natural phenomena etc.

The first screen shows a picture of the world with regions or continents appearing in different colours.

Children can click on any region to zoom in. The name of the region or continent will be named.

Small pictures are scattered over the regions. Each represents a movie of something particular to that part of the world. Click on them to open a window and play the movies. The subject of the movie is announced as it starts, with a short comment or description.

At the bottom of the movie window are the following buttons:
Pause button - click to freeze the movie.
Play button - click to unfreeze or restart the movie.
Stops the action and returns to the start of the movie.
Close the movie window to the previous screen.

To return to the world map, click on the backward arrow in the lower right corner of the screen.

To exit, click on the small hand in the upper right corner of the screen.

Teaching tips

Children will enjoy travelling the world and learning about some of the fascinating subjects shown in these world movies. They can pause the movies at any time for a detailed look at the action, continue running the movie or go back to the start.

What do the children think about the movies? Would they like to go to different places in the world? How would they get there? Has anyone been to another country? What was it like?

There are many fascinating dances and customs around the world. Have a look at some of the ones shown in this activity. Ask the children to make up their own dances. Vary the sorts of music played. How does the music make the children want to move? Is it jerky, fast, slow, melodic? Does it make them feel relaxed or energetic?
