Teaching tips

This is a simple and enjoyable free play activity. Children can click on each instrument to see and hear our friend play the instrument. Encourage them to help him play them in any order or number of times that they like. Start off slowly and gradually increase the speed of the instrument selections.

Children can play by themselves or with a partner. In pairs, children can take turns to name an instrument and the other can play it. This will involve comprehension and listening skills. Another paired activity is by playing a memory game. One child is asked to close their eyes while the other child plays a simple combination of instruments. Now, can the first child repeat the tune? They can start with one sound and then gradually increase the number.

One Man Band is an excellent activity for children who are being introduced to the computer mouse, as it needs only single click mouse control and is easily navigated. As they are having fun with the musical instruments, children will build confidence and a willingness to explore different combinations of sounds.
