Alphabet Book

How to play this game

Here is another wonderful book for preschoolers, taking them through the letters of the alphabet. Each page has fun sentences with delightful pictures and sounds to explore.

Children do not need to be able to read, as the sentences are read to them. They can have fun clicking on the speaker icons to have each one reread and the associated sounds played.

Pages can be turned forwards and backwards by clicking on the turned corner at the bottom of the pages. Children can also use click and drag in the direction of the arrow. This makes the reader feel like they are turning the page of a real book.

Pages can also be chosen at any time by clicking on the alphabet sequence underneath the book.

To exit, click on the small hand in the upper right corner of the screen.

Teaching tips

This book has been designed to reinforce letters of the alphabet and alphabetic sequence. It also shows that letters makeup words and words make up sentences. When they are read, the sentences tell a story.

Teachers can point out the large target letter at the top of the text page, showing it in both upper and lower case forms. Discuss when each type is used, such as upper case at the start of people's names and at the start of sentences. This is clearly demonstrated in the sentences used.

After children have turned the pages and listened to the narrative, encourage them to look for the target letter within the sentences. Notice that all the target letters are a slightly different colour.

Talk about the sound that each target letter makes and ask children if they know of other things starting with that sound.

Using the alphabet sequence under the book, ask children to find the letters of their name.

Show them how to click on the speaker icons to have the sentences reread or play the associated sounds.
